ATC facility: ZME. Location: 100 NM west of mem VOR. At FL330, 100 NM west of mem, we experienced a level 3 alert and MFDU message, oil overheat engine #1. Accomplished MFDU checklist. Operations manual follow-up required us to shut down engine #1. Declared an emergency. En route descent, approach, and landing were uneventful. Taxied to gate, deplaned passenger, debriefed crew, dispatch, and tulsa tech. Crew coordination was excellent. Emergency was handled in a safe and professional manner. Kudos to ZME, my crew, and memphis operations personnel. Job well done!
