Narrative:

Installed radar receiver/transmitter in aircraft nxxx (B727-100). Followed both maintenance manual and air carrier 'C' check card for installation and operations check for radar receiver/transmitter. Ground test passed even though the wave guide cover plate was left on radar receiver/transmitter after installation. Since this was my first installation I was unaware of the wave guide cover plate or its affect on the radar system. Neither the boeing maintenance manual nor the air carrier check cards state to remove the wave guide cover. This same incident has occurred at least 6 times in the past 6 months. Although most technicians would have known or remembered to remove the wave guide cover, I did not -- this being the first time I have installed one (radar receiver/transmitter). Removing the wave guide cover should be a step included in both the maintenance manual and 'C' check cards.
