Narrative:

As a flight attendant for over 21 yrs and a veteran of combat, I have experienced my share of intolerable people. On flight, jun/mon/97, I witnessed one of the worst passenger misconduct incidents of my career. Passenger, mr X, initiated a confrontation with the purser, cabin attendant #2, in the first class cabin. As I entered the cabin I saw captain talking with mr X. I stood behind captain and listened to the conversation. Mr X was not listening to the captain so I offered him a copy of the in-flight disturbance report, which the captain then offered to mr X. Mr X looked at it and then threw it back to me and said 'get out of here guido!' I then requested that he read the report and understand that what he was doing was interfering with the duties of the flight crew. He ignored my request and became more obnoxious. Captain went back to the cockpit and conferred with cabin attendant #2 and myself about the possibility of landing the aircraft in los angeles where auths would meet and arrest mr X. I then left and passed by mr X to return to my duties in the main cabin when he yelled at me, 'fuck you.' I turned around and asked him what he had said and he said, 'get out of here guido!' I went back to the cockpit and informed the captain and cabin attendant #2 of this. A decision was made at this time to land the aircraft in los angeles and remove mr X. The captain asked me not to pass by mr X's seat so I left the first class cabin via the other side. About 10 mins later I was summoned to the cockpit and was asked by the captain to walk by mr X's seat to see if he would say or do anything else. I walked by and he had his eyes shut and was quiet. I informed the captain of this and he asked us that if mr X remained quiet would it be okay to continue on to dfw and have him arrested there. Cabin attendant #2 and I agreed, mainly so that the rest of the passenger would not be inconvenienced. Mr X began working on his laptop computer and rang his call light several times asking for one thing or the other. After landing in dfw and being assured that law enforcement would be there to arrest mr X, we found that no one was present to meet the flight and had to be summoned. A department of public safety officer arrived and mr X, as well as the crew, were detained to make statements. The crew was asked if mr X physically abused anyone as they could not do anything unless he did. The department of public safety officer said that it was a matter for the fbi and had tried to notify an agent but one could not be reached. The crew as well as mr X was released. I personally felt that mr X was laughing at us as he felt he got away with his unacceptable behavior. I personally feel that he is capable of physical abuse if the situation arises on another flight. He is unsafe to flcs and should not be allowed to board another commercial flight. If that is not possible, flcs should be notified that he is a possible in-flight risk. Supplemental information from acn 373780: shortly after takeoff, a passenger, became increasingly loud and tried to monopolize the purser's attention. She came to the mid-galley several times, commenting that he was touching her inappropriately and making sexual innuendoes. Showed him the manual page, which he wadded up and threw at her, swearing more loudly. He demanded she bring him more liquor, which she refused. Captain came out of the cockpit on 2 occasions to address the problem and the abusive passenger was warned about interfering with crew members. His response was F__K you.

Title: AN ACR DC10 CABIN ATTENDANT RPTS THAT A PAX WAS ABUSIVE, BOTH VERBALLY AND BY INAPPROPRIATELY TOUCHING, BUT APPARENTLY DID NOT INTERFERE PHYSICALLY WITH THE CABIN ATTENDANTS DURING A FLT FROM HNL TO DFW SO THE POLICE DECIDED TO NOT ARREST THE PAX.

Narrative: AS A FLT ATTENDANT FOR OVER 21 YRS AND A VETERAN OF COMBAT, I HAVE EXPERIENCED MY SHARE OF INTOLERABLE PEOPLE. ON FLT, JUN/MON/97, I WITNESSED ONE OF THE WORST PAX MISCONDUCT INCIDENTS OF MY CAREER. PAX, MR X, INITIATED A CONFRONTATION WITH THE PURSER, CABIN ATTENDANT #2, IN THE FIRST CLASS CABIN. AS I ENTERED THE CABIN I SAW CAPT TALKING WITH MR X. I STOOD BEHIND CAPT AND LISTENED TO THE CONVERSATION. MR X WAS NOT LISTENING TO THE CAPT SO I OFFERED HIM A COPY OF THE INFLT DISTURBANCE RPT, WHICH THE CAPT THEN OFFERED TO MR X. MR X LOOKED AT IT AND THEN THREW IT BACK TO ME AND SAID 'GET OUT OF HERE GUIDO!' I THEN REQUESTED THAT HE READ THE RPT AND UNDERSTAND THAT WHAT HE WAS DOING WAS INTERFERING WITH THE DUTIES OF THE FLC. HE IGNORED MY REQUEST AND BECAME MORE OBNOXIOUS. CAPT WENT BACK TO THE COCKPIT AND CONFERRED WITH CABIN ATTENDANT #2 AND MYSELF ABOUT THE POSSIBILITY OF LNDG THE ACFT IN LOS ANGELES WHERE AUTHS WOULD MEET AND ARREST MR X. I THEN LEFT AND PASSED BY MR X TO RETURN TO MY DUTIES IN THE MAIN CABIN WHEN HE YELLED AT ME, 'FUCK YOU.' I TURNED AROUND AND ASKED HIM WHAT HE HAD SAID AND HE SAID, 'GET OUT OF HERE GUIDO!' I WENT BACK TO THE COCKPIT AND INFORMED THE CAPT AND CABIN ATTENDANT #2 OF THIS. A DECISION WAS MADE AT THIS TIME TO LAND THE ACFT IN LOS ANGELES AND REMOVE MR X. THE CAPT ASKED ME NOT TO PASS BY MR X'S SEAT SO I LEFT THE FIRST CLASS CABIN VIA THE OTHER SIDE. ABOUT 10 MINS LATER I WAS SUMMONED TO THE COCKPIT AND WAS ASKED BY THE CAPT TO WALK BY MR X'S SEAT TO SEE IF HE WOULD SAY OR DO ANYTHING ELSE. I WALKED BY AND HE HAD HIS EYES SHUT AND WAS QUIET. I INFORMED THE CAPT OF THIS AND HE ASKED US THAT IF MR X REMAINED QUIET WOULD IT BE OKAY TO CONTINUE ON TO DFW AND HAVE HIM ARRESTED THERE. CABIN ATTENDANT #2 AND I AGREED, MAINLY SO THAT THE REST OF THE PAX WOULD NOT BE INCONVENIENCED. MR X BEGAN WORKING ON HIS LAPTOP COMPUTER AND RANG HIS CALL LIGHT SEVERAL TIMES ASKING FOR ONE THING OR THE OTHER. AFTER LNDG IN DFW AND BEING ASSURED THAT LAW ENFORCEMENT WOULD BE THERE TO ARREST MR X, WE FOUND THAT NO ONE WAS PRESENT TO MEET THE FLT AND HAD TO BE SUMMONED. A DEPT OF PUBLIC SAFETY OFFICER ARRIVED AND MR X, AS WELL AS THE CREW, WERE DETAINED TO MAKE STATEMENTS. THE CREW WAS ASKED IF MR X PHYSICALLY ABUSED ANYONE AS THEY COULD NOT DO ANYTHING UNLESS HE DID. THE DEPT OF PUBLIC SAFETY OFFICER SAID THAT IT WAS A MATTER FOR THE FBI AND HAD TRIED TO NOTIFY AN AGENT BUT ONE COULD NOT BE REACHED. THE CREW AS WELL AS MR X WAS RELEASED. I PERSONALLY FELT THAT MR X WAS LAUGHING AT US AS HE FELT HE GOT AWAY WITH HIS UNACCEPTABLE BEHAVIOR. I PERSONALLY FEEL THAT HE IS CAPABLE OF PHYSICAL ABUSE IF THE SIT ARISES ON ANOTHER FLT. HE IS UNSAFE TO FLCS AND SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO BOARD ANOTHER COMMERCIAL FLT. IF THAT IS NOT POSSIBLE, FLCS SHOULD BE NOTIFIED THAT HE IS A POSSIBLE INFLT RISK. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 373780: SHORTLY AFTER TKOF, A PAX, BECAME INCREASINGLY LOUD AND TRIED TO MONOPOLIZE THE PURSER'S ATTN. CAPT CAME OUT OF THE COCKPIT ON 2 OCCASIONS TO ADDRESS THE PROB AND THE ABUSIVE PAX WAS WARNED ABOUT INTERFERING WITH CREW MEMBERS. HIS RESPONSE WAS F__K YOU.
