Narrative:

Assigned 5000 ft on climb out by iah departure control. Leveled at 5000 ft, then experienced a 'balloon' (autoplt was off, hand flying), lifting us up about 300-350 ft. Immediately corrected back to 5000 ft. Suspect thermal updraft. Unusual there at iah, bearing in mind the WX and the time, ie, no significant unsettled activity.

Narrative: ASSIGNED 5000 FT ON CLBOUT BY IAH DEP CTL. LEVELED AT 5000 FT, THEN EXPERIENCED A 'BALLOON' (AUTOPLT WAS OFF, HAND FLYING), LIFTING US UP ABOUT 300-350 FT. IMMEDIATELY CORRECTED BACK TO 5000 FT. SUSPECT THERMAL UPDRAFT. UNUSUAL THERE AT IAH, BEARING IN MIND THE WX AND THE TIME, IE, NO SIGNIFICANT UNSETTLED ACTIVITY.
