Narrative:

While climbing up to 27000 ft, I was getting ATIS for arrival. PF was leveling at 27000 ft. After writing down ATIS, I looked up and noticed that we were at 27350 ft and climbing slowly. I instructed PF to descend quickly back down to 27000 ft. After leveling, PF said that he became preoccupied with something while leveling and did not engage the altitude hold mode. Moral? Don't trust your trusty first officer! Watch while changing flight phases, ie, climb/cruise, etc.
