Narrative:

Received clearance to taxi to runway 18. Upon arriving at intersection of taxiway K and runway 33/15 ground commanded an air carrier A320 to hold short of runway 15. I directed my first officer to verify we were cleared to cross. Ground controller stated we were not. By this time we had crossed hold line of runway 15 but were still short of runway. Advised ATC -- no conflicts -- no air traffic. Supplemental information from acn 367480: upon call for taxi, ground cleared us to runway 18. No route specified. Since this was unusual, I called ground to verify 'cleared to cross runway 15' as crossing hold line. Ground said, 'no you're not.' since we had crossed hold line a few ft and ground control was contradicting clearance, felt filing this report necessary for safety aspect! Also, an air carrier B A320 had, just previous to our crossing verification, been told to hold short of runway 15. I think maybe he thought he (ATC) was talking to the air carrier B flight even though we had used our call sign. I may have irritated this controller as I said, after we stopped, that we were cleared to runway 18 and therefore had crossed the hold line by 50 ft (an overestimation, more like 10 ft). Controller was argumentative about the clearance after that, stating we were cleared to hold short of runway 15. We did not read back any hold short clrnces, which is mandatory per ATIS and etc.

Title: MD80 WAS CLRED TO RWY 18. AS THEY APCHED THE RWY 15 HOLD LINE AND GND CTLR COMMANDED AN ACR A320 TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 15, THE CAPT HAD THE FO CHK THAT THEY WERE CLRED TO CROSS RWY 15. GND CTLR SAID THEY WERE NOT. FO INSISTS THEY DID NOT RECEIVE NOR READ BACK A CLRNC TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 15.

Narrative: RECEIVED CLRNC TO TAXI TO RWY 18. UPON ARRIVING AT INTXN OF TXWY K AND RWY 33/15 GND COMMANDED AN ACR A320 TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 15. I DIRECTED MY FO TO VERIFY WE WERE CLRED TO CROSS. GND CTLR STATED WE WERE NOT. BY THIS TIME WE HAD CROSSED HOLD LINE OF RWY 15 BUT WERE STILL SHORT OF RWY. ADVISED ATC -- NO CONFLICTS -- NO AIR TFC. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 367480: UPON CALL FOR TAXI, GND CLRED US TO RWY 18. NO RTE SPECIFIED. SINCE THIS WAS UNUSUAL, I CALLED GND TO VERIFY 'CLRED TO CROSS RWY 15' AS CROSSING HOLD LINE. GND SAID, 'NO YOU'RE NOT.' SINCE WE HAD CROSSED HOLD LINE A FEW FT AND GND CTL WAS CONTRADICTING CLRNC, FELT FILING THIS RPT NECESSARY FOR SAFETY ASPECT! ALSO, AN ACR B A320 HAD, JUST PREVIOUS TO OUR XING VERIFICATION, BEEN TOLD TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 15. I THINK MAYBE HE THOUGHT HE (ATC) WAS TALKING TO THE ACR B FLIGHT EVEN THOUGH WE HAD USED OUR CALL SIGN. I MAY HAVE IRRITATED THIS CTLR AS I SAID, AFTER WE STOPPED, THAT WE WERE CLRED TO RWY 18 AND THEREFORE HAD CROSSED THE HOLD LINE BY 50 FT (AN OVERESTIMATION, MORE LIKE 10 FT). CTLR WAS ARGUMENTATIVE ABOUT THE CLRNC AFTER THAT, STATING WE WERE CLRED TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 15. WE DID NOT READ BACK ANY HOLD SHORT CLRNCES, WHICH IS MANDATORY PER ATIS AND ETC.
