Narrative:

I was about 90 NM from starkville, ms, when I was cleared to descend at pilot discretion to 6000 ft and cross 60 mi north of starkville, ms, at 6000 ft MSL. The copilot was talking to ZME and I misunderstood the direction and crossing restr. I thought we were to cross at 30 mi north of starkville at 6000 ft. At 62 DME ZME called and asked if we were going to be able to meet the restr. I told the controller I thought the restr was at 30 NM at 6000 ft MSL. The controller said we were to cross 60 NM at 6000 ft. The controller then told me to turn a heading of 310 degrees and contact columbus approach control.
