Narrative:

Altitude deviation. ATC facility: ZAU. Location: okk/180/20. After leveling at 16000 ft we asked for the local altitude setting. Due to an improper altimeter setting on the ground we were above our assigned altitude by greater than 300 ft. We immediately corrected and did not receive any comments from ATC regarding our altitude. It is very important to verify the correct altimeter setting on the ground especially if a front has passed through the area the night before as was our case.

Title: FLC OF A MD80 OVERSHOT CLB ALT DUE TO HAVING THE WRONG ALTIMETER SETTING. THEY CORRECTED THEIR ALT AT ONCE WITH NO COMMENT FROM ATC.

Narrative: ALTDEV. ATC FACILITY: ZAU. LOCATION: OKK/180/20. AFTER LEVELING AT 16000 FT WE ASKED FOR THE LCL ALT SETTING. DUE TO AN IMPROPER ALTIMETER SETTING ON THE GND WE WERE ABOVE OUR ASSIGNED ALT BY GREATER THAN 300 FT. WE IMMEDIATELY CORRECTED AND DID NOT RECEIVE ANY COMMENTS FROM ATC REGARDING OUR ALT. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO VERIFY THE CORRECT ALTIMETER SETTING ON THE GND ESPECIALLY IF A FRONT HAS PASSED THROUGH THE AREA THE NIGHT BEFORE AS WAS OUR CASE.
