Narrative:

ATC facility: sju center. Location: saalr intersection. While I was out of the cockpit, a clearance was given to cross saalr at 11000 ft. Upon return the descent was in progress. I assumed that 10000 ft was the altitude assigned and took the aircraft back from the captain. We were approaching 11000 ft when the aircraft behind us was given the same altitude. We tried to confirm the altitude assigned us, but could not get through to ATC. The descent was stopped at about 10300 ft and returned to 11000 ft at the same time that ATC confirmed that 11000 ft was our assigned altitude. There was no conflict any other aircraft or airspace. Supplemental information from acn 360711: the clearance was read back correctly as confirmed by the tape readback. Inadvertently 10000 ft was entered in the altitude display window while reading back the clearance at the same time.

Title: ALTDEV ALT OVERSHOOT. PIC SET WRONG ALT IN ALT ALERTER WHILE FO WAS OUT OF COCKPIT DURING DSCNT.

Narrative: ATC FACILITY: SJU CTR. LOCATION: SAALR INTXN. WHILE I WAS OUT OF THE COCKPIT, A CLRNC WAS GIVEN TO CROSS SAALR AT 11000 FT. UPON RETURN THE DSCNT WAS IN PROGRESS. I ASSUMED THAT 10000 FT WAS THE ALT ASSIGNED AND TOOK THE ACFT BACK FROM THE CAPT. WE WERE APCHING 11000 FT WHEN THE ACFT BEHIND US WAS GIVEN THE SAME ALT. WE TRIED TO CONFIRM THE ALT ASSIGNED US, BUT COULD NOT GET THROUGH TO ATC. THE DSCNT WAS STOPPED AT ABOUT 10300 FT AND RETURNED TO 11000 FT AT THE SAME TIME THAT ATC CONFIRMED THAT 11000 FT WAS OUR ASSIGNED ALT. THERE WAS NO CONFLICT ANY OTHER ACFT OR AIRSPACE. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 360711: THE CLRNC WAS READ BACK CORRECTLY AS CONFIRMED BY THE TAPE READBACK. INADVERTENTLY 10000 FT WAS ENTERED IN THE ALT DISPLAY WINDOW WHILE READING BACK THE CLRNC AT THE SAME TIME.
