Narrative:

MD88 in cruise FL350, flight lga-dfw. Flight planned parke J6 lit-dfw inbound to lrp VOR heading 250 degrees, got D/right message on FMS. FMS was navigating to lrp on J6 (navigation track good on line). With D/right messages began manual tuning of vors. FMS map display showed about 10 NM northeast of lrp on J6. Lrp VOR tuned, ATC calls us to come right 270 degrees to intercept J6. At this time xchk of lrp VOR on navigation data (FMS) shows over lrp, lrp VOR xchk shows us 17 NM southwest of lrp. We used manual mode of navigation to regain track on J6 south of lrp. It took several mi and manual tuning of vors before FMS updated to accurate information. Remainder of flight FMS navigation ok.
