Narrative:
Transiting class B on GPS direct from frg to ptw, using flight following. Was being given vectors from new york approach. Approach warned of 2 targets approaching from my 9 O'clock position. Spotted both and informed approach. Within about 30-45 seconds, I spotted another target a 9 O'clock which appeared to be at about the same altitude and closing. Radio traffic was very busy and couldn't read approach. I pushed the nose over and descended 150 ft, then saw other target was on approach descent and immediately climbed back to assigned 3800 ft. I was off assigned altitude for under 15 seconds, other plane did not appear to have to take any evasive action. I believe that although approach had us separated by about 500 ft vertical, we were warned of 2 targets when there were 3.

Title: SMA PLT TAKES EVASIVE ACTION ON SIGHTING TFC NOT ISSUED. HIS ORIGINAL ALT WOULD HAVE BEEN FINE AND HE RETURNS TO ASSIGNED ALT.
Narrative: TRANSITING CLASS B ON GPS DIRECT FROM FRG TO PTW, USING FLT FOLLOWING. WAS BEING GIVEN VECTORS FROM NEW YORK APCH. APCH WARNED OF 2 TARGETS APCHING FROM MY 9 O'CLOCK POS. SPOTTED BOTH AND INFORMED APCH. WITHIN ABOUT 30-45 SECONDS, I SPOTTED ANOTHER TARGET A 9 O'CLOCK WHICH APPEARED TO BE AT ABOUT THE SAME ALT AND CLOSING. RADIO TFC WAS VERY BUSY AND COULDN'T READ APCH. I PUSHED THE NOSE OVER AND DSNDED 150 FT, THEN SAW OTHER TARGET WAS ON APCH DSCNT AND IMMEDIATELY CLBED BACK TO ASSIGNED 3800 FT. I WAS OFF ASSIGNED ALT FOR UNDER 15 SECONDS, OTHER PLANE DID NOT APPEAR TO HAVE TO TAKE ANY EVASIVE ACTION. I BELIEVE THAT ALTHOUGH APCH HAD US SEPARATED BY ABOUT 500 FT VERT, WE WERE WARNED OF 2 TARGETS WHEN THERE WERE 3.
