Narrative:

Operating into uncontrolled airport with wrong unicom frequency. Flew standard pattern, no aircraft sighted. On final observed beech A36 on very close-in base leg (left traffic) with steep left bank angle headed directly for us. Pilot rated passenger in rear seat observed other aircraft and alerted PIC in right seat. Immediately started climbing right turn to avoid collision. Failure to monitor correct unicom on our part and failure of other pilot's scan as well as short approach were main factors. Without passenger alertness this would have resulted in collision.
