Narrative:

En route dtw-mke we had to divert north of course due to severe WX. On letdown toward mke a line of thunderstorms lay across the airway so we had to deviate south. After handoff to ZAU low sector just east of mke, controller told us to 'hurry down' in our descent and kept trying to turn us toward the WX. We repeatedly refused and inquired what his needs were about traffic but couldn't get any more information out of him than 'fly 290 degrees,' which was unacceptable. I finally turned to that heading briefly, told him we could hold it 2 mins. When he refused to help us with any further vectors I declared an emergency and turned 90 degrees to the right away from the WX. Apparently we got below his traffic, made a 180 degree turn and flew around the south end of the line.

Title: ACR MLG FLC DECLARES AN EMER DSNDING INTO MKE AS ZAU WON'T LET THEM DEVIATE FROM ASSIGNED VECTOR WHICH IS TAKING THEM INTO TSTMS.

Narrative: ENRTE DTW-MKE WE HAD TO DIVERT N OF COURSE DUE TO SEVERE WX. ON LETDOWN TOWARD MKE A LINE OF TSTMS LAY ACROSS THE AIRWAY SO WE HAD TO DEVIATE S. AFTER HDOF TO ZAU LOW SECTOR JUST E OF MKE, CTLR TOLD US TO 'HURRY DOWN' IN OUR DSCNT AND KEPT TRYING TO TURN US TOWARD THE WX. WE REPEATEDLY REFUSED AND INQUIRED WHAT HIS NEEDS WERE ABOUT TFC BUT COULDN'T GET ANY MORE INFO OUT OF HIM THAN 'FLY 290 DEGS,' WHICH WAS UNACCEPTABLE. I FINALLY TURNED TO THAT HDG BRIEFLY, TOLD HIM WE COULD HOLD IT 2 MINS. WHEN HE REFUSED TO HELP US WITH ANY FURTHER VECTORS I DECLARED AN EMER AND TURNED 90 DEGS TO THE R AWAY FROM THE WX. APPARENTLY WE GOT BELOW HIS TFC, MADE A 180 DEG TURN AND FLEW AROUND THE S END OF THE LINE.
