Narrative:

I was talking to hayward tower and departing to the east toward stockton. I was in a climb and climbed through 1500 ft which is the floor of oak class C airspace to 1600 ft. Hwd alerted me to what I had done and I quickly descended to 1400 ft to stay well clear of the airspace. While I do not need permission to enter class C, I do need to be talking to them to enter. In the future I will keep my map close and not allow myself to become complacent no matter how well I think that I know the airspace.
