Narrative:

We were descending from 10000 ft to 8000 ft. Upon reaching 8000 ft the captain thought he heard 'air carrier a turn to 165 degrees and descend to 3000 ft.' he continued descending through 8000 ft. At about 7500 ft, the flight engineer said the clearance had not been for us but for air carrier ab. The first officer agreed, so the captain immediately started to return to 8000 ft. At about 7800 ft rdu approach cleared us to 6000 ft. Remainder of approach and landing normal.
