Narrative:

With PF under the hood the light twin approached our aircraft from the left hidden from the safety pilot by the left front door post. The safety pilot saw the aircraft a split second before it passed below our aircraft missing us by 50 ft or less. There was no time for evasive action. It was not possible to tell whether the pilot of the other aircraft initiated an evasive maneuver, or not. It is not known whether the twin was leaving the pattern at rock hill, sc, or was flying by. Rock hill lies under charlotte, nc, class B airspace with the floor of the airspace at 3600 ft. We were not monitoring unicom or charlotte approach at the time. The class B airspace concentrates a lot of VFR traffic under the shelf of the airspace causing more congestion there. It's hard to say what could have been done to avert this type of occurrence. Renewed and constant vigilance is very important. Perhaps monitoring of unicom and approach frequency might have helped if the other aircraft was in contact.

Narrative: WITH PF UNDER THE HOOD THE LIGHT TWIN APCHED OUR ACFT FROM THE L HIDDEN FROM THE SAFETY PLT BY THE L FRONT DOOR POST.
