Narrative:

Received clearance to descend to 9000 ft by 25 mi from portland VOR. ATC questioned altitude at 7800 ft. Confirmed and received clearance to hold 8000 ft. One reason for occurrence, many of our aircraft have altitude alerters, this one does not. Supplemental information from acn 314890: this was due to checklists, communication with company and no altitude warning device on this aircraft.
