Narrative:

I was set up for this one! Tower was talking very fast, trying to move the traffic (practice speaking slower?). Tower said, I know, 'taxi into position....' in hindsight, I have to assume it was, or he meant, 'taxi into position runway 28, hold short runway 23L.' in retrospect, he may have actually cleared me. He had almost in the same breath told a B737 in position on runway 28, traffic would be departing runway 23L, then he told us, after, traffic would hold on runway 28 for us. Bottom line is: I was ready to go into position and hold on runway 23L, expect.... There was a commuter on final. The visibility was not great (approximately 5 mi and hazy/fog) into the morning sun. Once you make the turn here, the captain's visibility is blocked towards the final approach area. I never saw the commuter till after the tower said 'hold short.' suggest cle tower standardize verbiage on this clearance and remove any reference to 'position.' I thought I was cleared but I really don't remember exactly what was said after 'taxi into position....' perhaps 'taxi onto runway 28, hold short runway 23L.' we held short, but tower could see I was going to keep going. They called us just in time. Where was my first officer? Being the strong silent type I guess.

Title: ACR X POSSIBLE RWY INCURSION DUE TO PROX OF RWYS.

Narrative: I WAS SET UP FOR THIS ONE! TWR WAS TALKING VERY FAST, TRYING TO MOVE THE TFC (PRACTICE SPEAKING SLOWER?). TWR SAID, I KNOW, 'TAXI INTO POS....' IN HINDSIGHT, I HAVE TO ASSUME IT WAS, OR HE MEANT, 'TAXI INTO POS RWY 28, HOLD SHORT RWY 23L.' IN RETROSPECT, HE MAY HAVE ACTUALLY CLRED ME. HE HAD ALMOST IN THE SAME BREATH TOLD A B737 IN POS ON RWY 28, TFC WOULD BE DEPARTING RWY 23L, THEN HE TOLD US, AFTER, TFC WOULD HOLD ON RWY 28 FOR US. BOTTOM LINE IS: I WAS READY TO GO INTO POS AND HOLD ON RWY 23L, EXPECT.... THERE WAS A COMMUTER ON FINAL. THE VISIBILITY WAS NOT GREAT (APPROX 5 MI AND HAZY/FOG) INTO THE MORNING SUN. ONCE YOU MAKE THE TURN HERE, THE CAPT'S VISIBILITY IS BLOCKED TOWARDS THE FINAL APCH AREA. I NEVER SAW THE COMMUTER TILL AFTER THE TWR SAID 'HOLD SHORT.' SUGGEST CLE TWR STANDARDIZE VERBIAGE ON THIS CLRNC AND REMOVE ANY REF TO 'POS.' I THOUGHT I WAS CLRED BUT I REALLY DON'T REMEMBER EXACTLY WHAT WAS SAID AFTER 'TAXI INTO POS....' PERHAPS 'TAXI ONTO RWY 28, HOLD SHORT RWY 23L.' WE HELD SHORT, BUT TWR COULD SEE I WAS GOING TO KEEP GOING. THEY CALLED US JUST IN TIME. WHERE WAS MY FO? BEING THE STRONG SILENT TYPE I GUESS.
