Narrative:

Exited runway 36 on taxiway north, contacted ground and received clearance 'turn right on taxiway J and then taxiway north to your gate.' after turning right on taxiway J, this left us approaching runway 33 with traffic landing. We were stopped by the time ground advised 'stop.' after traffic cleared, we received new taxi routing to the gate. 1) received bad clearance. 2) need better taxi marking so as to possibly detect such errors earlier without having to bury your head in a taxi chart. Again, airports should be marked well enough so as to require very little use of a taxi diagram.
