Narrative:

ILS runway 2L, bna, on GS passing 2500 ft MSL, approach advised traffic at 11 O'clock and 2200 ft. TCASII announced 'traffic, traffic.' captain indicated to first officer to level off or climb. First officer began leveloff as TCASII called 'descend, descend now.' first officer began descent as captain signaled first officer to descend. TCASII showed green fly to arc at 1500 FPM down. Captain and so saw traffic at 10:30 O'clock position as approach control called traffic at 1 mi and gave authority/authorized to climb or go missed approach. As first officer continued towards 1500 FPM down 'fly to' arc, TCASII called 'climb, climb now.' with the traffic in sight, first officer continued approach as TCASII called 'monitor vertical speed,' then 'clear of conflict.' it was a difficult situation because: we were close to the ground, in a gentle descent with traffic below us. We wanted to climb or level but TCASII commanded descent and approach ok'd a climb, but training dictates that we follow TCASII RA's. Supplemental information from acn 313747: conflict was with a high wing taildragger in opposite direction.

Title: WHILE ON AN INST APCH IN CLASS C AIRSPACE, A B727 FLC RECEIVED A TCASII RA COMMANDING DSCNT. THE FLC FOLLOWED TCASII COMMANDS.

Narrative: ILS RWY 2L, BNA, ON GS PASSING 2500 FT MSL, APCH ADVISED TFC AT 11 O'CLOCK AND 2200 FT. TCASII ANNOUNCED 'TFC, TFC.' CAPT INDICATED TO FO TO LEVEL OFF OR CLB. FO BEGAN LEVELOFF AS TCASII CALLED 'DSND, DSND NOW.' FO BEGAN DSCNT AS CAPT SIGNALED FO TO DSND. TCASII SHOWED GREEN FLY TO ARC AT 1500 FPM DOWN. CAPT AND SO SAW TFC AT 10:30 O'CLOCK POS AS APCH CTL CALLED TFC AT 1 MI AND GAVE AUTH TO CLB OR GO MISSED APCH. AS FO CONTINUED TOWARDS 1500 FPM DOWN 'FLY TO' ARC, TCASII CALLED 'CLB, CLB NOW.' WITH THE TFC IN SIGHT, FO CONTINUED APCH AS TCASII CALLED 'MONITOR VERT SPD,' THEN 'CLR OF CONFLICT.' IT WAS A DIFFICULT SIT BECAUSE: WE WERE CLOSE TO THE GND, IN A GENTLE DSCNT WITH TFC BELOW US. WE WANTED TO CLB OR LEVEL BUT TCASII COMMANDED DSCNT AND APCH OK'D A CLB, BUT TRAINING DICTATES THAT WE FOLLOW TCASII RA'S. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 313747: CONFLICT WAS WITH A HIGH WING TAILDRAGGER IN OPPOSITE DIRECTION.
