Narrative:

Approximately 10 mi northwest of dpa en route to another airport, I experienced an apparent fuel shortage (actually the gauge was incorrect). Having indicated the problem, the tower controller cleared my aircraft for an expedited descent and landing. However, I approached the runway too high and was forced to go around. In doing so, my aircraft crossed the path of an airplane flaring to land on another runway. The runways do not intersect but are in very close proximity. I'd recommend controllers not clear 2 aircraft as was done here, particularly when one is experiencing difficulty.

Title: RPTR'S ERRONEOUS FUEL GAUGE PROVOKES PRECAUTIONARY LNDG ATTEMPT WITH MISSED APCH AND NEAR MISS WITH OTHER ACFT IN THE PROCESS.

Narrative: APPROX 10 MI NW OF DPA ENRTE TO ANOTHER ARPT, I EXPERIENCED AN APPARENT FUEL SHORTAGE (ACTUALLY THE GAUGE WAS INCORRECT). HAVING INDICATED THE PROB, THE TWR CTLR CLRED MY ACFT FOR AN EXPEDITED DSCNT AND LNDG. HOWEVER, I APCHED THE RWY TOO HIGH AND WAS FORCED TO GAR. IN DOING SO, MY ACFT CROSSED THE PATH OF AN AIRPLANE FLARING TO LAND ON ANOTHER RWY. THE RWYS DO NOT INTERSECT BUT ARE IN VERY CLOSE PROX. I'D RECOMMEND CTLRS NOT CLR 2 ACFT AS WAS DONE HERE, PARTICULARLY WHEN ONE IS EXPERIENCING DIFFICULTY.
