Narrative:

Brake temperature light came on. Discovered 3 hot brakes. Stopped aircraft on parallel taxiway to runway 18L. Shut down engines, called for firefighting equipment. Fire broke out on #7 brake and was quickly put out by firefighters. Did not evacuate/evacuation aircraft per crash fire rescue equipment recommendation. Suspect a dragging brake was cause. Recommend checking brake temperatures before takeoff every flight. Had this happened after a shorter taxi and subsequent takeoff, a fire safely extinguished on the ground could have become an in-flight disaster. Proper procedure should also be co-located with other emergency/abnormal procedures in pilot operations manual. There was no procedure in any of our manuals to cover this situation.

Title: BRAKE FIRE ON THE GND AT DFW.

Narrative: BRAKE TEMP LIGHT CAME ON. DISCOVERED 3 HOT BRAKES. STOPPED ACFT ON PARALLEL TXWY TO RWY 18L. SHUT DOWN ENGS, CALLED FOR FIREFIGHTING EQUIP. FIRE BROKE OUT ON #7 BRAKE AND WAS QUICKLY PUT OUT BY FIREFIGHTERS. DID NOT EVAC ACFT PER CFR RECOMMENDATION. SUSPECT A DRAGGING BRAKE WAS CAUSE. RECOMMEND CHKING BRAKE TEMPS BEFORE TKOF EVERY FLT. HAD THIS HAPPENED AFTER A SHORTER TAXI AND SUBSEQUENT TKOF, A FIRE SAFELY EXTINGUISHED ON THE GND COULD HAVE BECOME AN INFLT DISASTER. PROPER PROC SHOULD ALSO BE CO-LOCATED WITH OTHER EMER/ABNORMAL PROCS IN PLT OPS MANUAL. THERE WAS NO PROC IN ANY OF OUR MANUALS TO COVER THIS SIT.
