Narrative:
During [preparation for pushback] the flight crew released brakes before making contact with the ramp crew. As a result the plane rolled backwards about 6-8 inches almost rolling onto the foot of the ramp service person.

Title: Ground observer reports an aircraft rolling backwards slightly when the Captain releases the parking brake prior to pushback; without communicating with the pushback crew. A foot is narrowly missed.
