Narrative:

In sum: given a crossing altitude restr by ZDC of 60 mi south of ric at FL270. In the descent, center asked what we understood the restr to be. Replied with 60 mi south of ric at FL270. He said it was 65 mi south of FL270 and also said -- make it 60 mi south at FL270. We leveled at FL270 about 62 DME south of ric. The restr was given once, then revised, with a resulting misunderstanding. Supplemental information from acn 303741: ATC indicated we read back restr as 65 mi southeast. Not sure where misunderstanding/confusion occurred.
