Narrative:
We were cleared from 18000 ft to 17000 ft and given VFR traffic at 12 O'clock and 7 mi at 16500 ft. When we leveled at 17000 ft we had a TCASII RA, telling us to descend. We saw a red target at 12 O'clock at about 3 mi indicating our same altitude (17000 ft). We followed the TCASII instructions and descended to 16000 ft and notified ATC. Neither the first officer or I saw the traffic, but TCASII said we passed within 200 ft.
