Narrative:

I was practicing message drop for our flight team in an airplane with an inoperative radio. The only other planes in the pattern were flight team planes. I was the lead plane and I did 1 message drop pass and then I came in to land. I had my passenger (also a pilot) looking for traffic with me and we felt we were safe, until we glanced to the portion of grass between runway and taxiway and someone was waving their arms. I looked off to my left and an airplane was just beside me veering to the left. I continued landing. Apparently the airplane I saw had been behind me the whole pattern but assumed I was doing a message drop and not landing. So he assumed it was ok for him to land. To have avoided this problem I could have made sure I had a plane with operative radios, or made sure others on the team knew my intentions before takeoff.

Narrative: I WAS PRACTICING MESSAGE DROP FOR OUR FLT TEAM IN AN AIRPLANE WITH AN INOP RADIO. THE ONLY OTHER PLANES IN THE PATTERN WERE FLT TEAM PLANES. I WAS THE LEAD PLANE AND I DID 1 MESSAGE DROP PASS AND THEN I CAME IN TO LAND. I HAD MY PAX (ALSO A PLT) LOOKING FOR TFC WITH ME AND WE FELT WE WERE SAFE, UNTIL WE GLANCED TO THE PORTION OF GRASS BTWN RWY AND TXWY AND SOMEONE WAS WAVING THEIR ARMS. I LOOKED OFF TO MY L AND AN AIRPLANE WAS JUST BESIDE ME VEERING TO THE L. I CONTINUED LNDG. APPARENTLY THE AIRPLANE I SAW HAD BEEN BEHIND ME THE WHOLE PATTERN BUT ASSUMED I WAS DOING A MESSAGE DROP AND NOT LNDG. SO HE ASSUMED IT WAS OK FOR HIM TO LAND. TO HAVE AVOIDED THIS PROB I COULD HAVE MADE SURE I HAD A PLANE WITH OPERATIVE RADIOS, OR MADE SURE OTHERS ON THE TEAM KNEW MY INTENTIONS BEFORE TKOF.
