Narrative:

Upon gear retraction, a noise was heard from the nose gear area. There were no cockpit indications of any anomalies. As airspeed increased, 'air' noise from the nose area increased. We cycled the gear and upon retraction, this time, received a nose gear unsafe indication. We extended the gear and received a safe '3-green' indication. We then requested from ATC to return to the field. Since all indications were normal we canceled any 'ATC alerts.' we did not declare an emergency or request any equipment. The landing was safe and normal.
