Narrative:
Approaching san diego montgomery field (myf) from the north, estimated position as clear of class 'B' airspace east of miramar. I was using what I thought was san vincente resovoir to determine position. I crossed over san diego's gillespie field (see) and made a straight-in approach and landing. I was then notified that I should contact san diego approach by phone. Upon contacting san diego approach I was told that a near miss had been observed on radar and a positive identify had been made. I explained that I thought I was in the correct position, but that I may have mistaken miramar resovoir for san vincente resovoir. Upon reflection, I am quite sure that is exactly what happened. I was informed that san diego approach would contact the navy pilot in the other plane involved (an F18) to see if he wished to file a near miss report. I was told (asked) to call back later that morning, and that if the pilot did not wish to file, he would just as soon chalk it up as a learning experience. Upon calling back later, I was informed that the F18 pilot had me in sight from a safe distance and that I had presented nothing more than an inconvenience and not a safety hazard and as far as the FAA (san diego approach) was concerned, it was a closed incident. No accident was involved in this incident.

Title: UNAUTH PENETRATION OF AIRSPACE - PLT MISIDENTS GND CHKPOINTS AND FLIES THROUGH A TCA AND HAS LTSS FROM A MIL FIGHTER IN ITS APCH PATTERN.
Narrative: APCHING SAN DIEGO MONTGOMERY FIELD (MYF) FROM THE N, ESTIMATED POS AS CLR OF CLASS 'B' AIRSPACE E OF MIRAMAR. I WAS USING WHAT I THOUGHT WAS SAN VINCENTE RESOVOIR TO DETERMINE POS. I CROSSED OVER SAN DIEGO'S GILLESPIE FIELD (SEE) AND MADE A STRAIGHT-IN APCH AND LNDG. I WAS THEN NOTIFIED THAT I SHOULD CONTACT SAN DIEGO APCH BY PHONE. UPON CONTACTING SAN DIEGO APCH I WAS TOLD THAT A NEAR MISS HAD BEEN OBSERVED ON RADAR AND A POSITIVE IDENT HAD BEEN MADE. I EXPLAINED THAT I THOUGHT I WAS IN THE CORRECT POS, BUT THAT I MAY HAVE MISTAKEN MIRAMAR RESOVOIR FOR SAN VINCENTE RESOVOIR. UPON REFLECTION, I AM QUITE SURE THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED. I WAS INFORMED THAT SAN DIEGO APCH WOULD CONTACT THE NAVY PLT IN THE OTHER PLANE INVOLVED (AN F18) TO SEE IF HE WISHED TO FILE A NEAR MISS RPT. I WAS TOLD (ASKED) TO CALL BACK LATER THAT MORNING, AND THAT IF THE PLT DID NOT WISH TO FILE, HE WOULD JUST AS SOON CHALK IT UP AS A LEARNING EXPERIENCE. UPON CALLING BACK LATER, I WAS INFORMED THAT THE F18 PLT HAD ME IN SIGHT FROM A SAFE DISTANCE AND THAT I HAD PRESENTED NOTHING MORE THAN AN INCONVENIENCE AND NOT A SAFETY HAZARD AND AS FAR AS THE FAA (SAN DIEGO APCH) WAS CONCERNED, IT WAS A CLOSED INCIDENT. NO ACCIDENT WAS INVOLVED IN THIS INCIDENT.
