Narrative:

On the action arrival to dfw -- first officer was flying approaching creek intersection. Much attention was paid to the radar picture due to rain showers of increasing intensity just west of the downwind for runway 18L. Speed reduction was begun too late to be completed by creek intersection. When downwind turn was commenced at creek intersection. Approach issued a clearance to descend from 11000-6000 ft and a frequency switch to 132.1, at which time controller asked what our speed was. By that time the speed had been reduced through 220 KTS. The speed reduction was completed approximately 3 and 1/2 mi past creek. No further inquiry was made as to our speed. Although the WX picture was very important to the safety of the flight, someone still must be watching the store!
