Narrative:

Flying arrival to airport inbound to VOR on portion of STAR where it says expect vectors to final approach. Frequency was very busy. About to reach station began to call for assigned heading but controller was unsure of our position. We relayed position just passing VOR and he said that frequency was in error and gave us a change. We had previously been given 9000 ft, 40 KTS expect runway 18R on that frequency. We checked in our new frequency and received vectors to landing, but, on a different runway from the one initially assigned. In future will just attempt to resolve any miscom at the earliest possible time rather than waiting to see if we truly have been forgotten.
