Narrative:

We were en route from dhn to mem descending to 11000 ft. During the descent the altitude preselect was not working properly. I became too preoccupied with the minor problem and failed to monitor the altitude as I should have plus we were circumnaving some small cells. Before I realized I was approaching 10000 ft, I immediately started a climb to get back to my assigned altitude of 11000 ft. At that time center asked my altitude when told she gave me 9000 ft and turned us over to mgm approach, I realized I had made a big mistake. In the future I will leave minor discrepancies to maintenance on the ground and concentrate on my primary job of flying the airplane, hoping this will never happen again.
