Narrative:

Air carrier X climbing out of denver on the plano 1 departure passing through 14000 ft with departure control we idented WX ahead to avoid. Departure sent us to ZDV (133.95). As we were making contact with ZDV we began deviating left of course. Upon contact we told center that we were deviating for WX. Denver told us to level off (16000 ft) and not to deviate left. At that time we stopped our turn. We were never more than 1 mi from centerline. Center was concerned for traffic on our left side but we had nothing on TCASII. Earlier coordination of the deviation would have been better but was hampered by transition between controllers. We never did determine what, if any was the traffic problem.
