Narrative:

Air carrier X approaching atl on the rome arrival, approximately 60 mi southeast of nashville VOR at FL330, we received a TCASII alert commanding us to climb. We immediately began a climb and leveled the aircraft a 33500 ft. WX at the time was solid IMC. We notified ZTL of our evasive action and were cleared back to our altitude and on course. During subsequent telephone conversations with ZTL. I was advised that we had come within 4.3 mi of opposite direction FL330 air carrier Y traffic. At this time I was informed that it was an ATC operational error on the part of ZTL
