Narrative:

Ground asked me to take runway 31R for takeoff prior to taxi. I refused and asked for runway 31L. Runway 31R is a 4000 ft runway and runway 31L is 7300 ft runway. I was puzzled that ground would ask me to take a much shorter runway than was available. I let this distract me. Ground then gave me instructions to taxi to runway 31L. I wrote it down incorrectly. I had second thoughts and hesitated taking runway 31R for taxi, but received nothing from ground and traffic was clear. I was corrected by ground immediately but told to continue to back taxi on runway 31R. Perhaps ground realized he was not clear in his instructions. I should have asked ground to repeat the instruction.

Title: UNAUTH RWY ENTRY.

Narrative: GND ASKED ME TO TAKE RWY 31R FOR TKOF PRIOR TO TAXI. I REFUSED AND ASKED FOR RWY 31L. RWY 31R IS A 4000 FT RWY AND RWY 31L IS 7300 FT RWY. I WAS PUZZLED THAT GND WOULD ASK ME TO TAKE A MUCH SHORTER RWY THAN WAS AVAILABLE. I LET THIS DISTRACT ME. GND THEN GAVE ME INSTRUCTIONS TO TAXI TO RWY 31L. I WROTE IT DOWN INCORRECTLY. I HAD SECOND THOUGHTS AND HESITATED TAKING RWY 31R FOR TAXI, BUT RECEIVED NOTHING FROM GND AND TFC WAS CLR. I WAS CORRECTED BY GND IMMEDIATELY BUT TOLD TO CONTINUE TO BACK TAXI ON RWY 31R. PERHAPS GND REALIZED HE WAS NOT CLR IN HIS INSTRUCTIONS. I SHOULD HAVE ASKED GND TO REPEAT THE INSTRUCTION.
