Narrative:
On landing roll out the tower told the pilot to expedite off the runway. He missed the intended taxiway and had to taxi to the end. It was night time and a displaced threshold and the confusion of markings and signs and lights and rushing caused the pilot to turn on to asphalt at a point short of the formal taxiway.
