Narrative:

Aircraft was released from annual inspection. Aircraft logs were, however, not complete. IFR certification was due and was not performed, which was not known to me. I flew approximately 1 hour in IMC conditions. I shot the approach and missed at mvr due to low ceilings. I then flew to montgomery, al, and used the ILS approach and landed without incident. After returning to lal, a few days later, I went to get the aircraft logs and discovered the IFR certification was not done. Although the flight went smoothly, I violated an far by flying an aircraft on an IFR flight plan and in IMC conditions without a current IFR certification. The aircraft is now IFR certified. I accepted the aircraft on verbal assurance that everything had been done. I should have insisted on the aircraft logbooks to be completed before I flew the airplane, and I would have known the certification had been missed. I will not accept release of an aircraft from annual inspection with the logbooks completed again.

Title: PLT OF AN SMT TWIN OPERATED UNDER IFR WHEN THE ACFT WAS NOT RECERTIFIED FOR IFR.

Narrative: ACFT WAS RELEASED FROM ANNUAL INSPECTION. ACFT LOGS WERE, HOWEVER, NOT COMPLETE. IFR CERTIFICATION WAS DUE AND WAS NOT PERFORMED, WHICH WAS NOT KNOWN TO ME. I FLEW APPROX 1 HR IN IMC CONDITIONS. I SHOT THE APCH AND MISSED AT MVR DUE TO LOW CEILINGS. I THEN FLEW TO MONTGOMERY, AL, AND USED THE ILS APCH AND LANDED WITHOUT INCIDENT. AFTER RETURNING TO LAL, A FEW DAYS LATER, I WENT TO GET THE ACFT LOGS AND DISCOVERED THE IFR CERTIFICATION WAS NOT DONE. ALTHOUGH THE FLT WENT SMOOTHLY, I VIOLATED AN FAR BY FLYING AN ACFT ON AN IFR FLT PLAN AND IN IMC CONDITIONS WITHOUT A CURRENT IFR CERTIFICATION. THE ACFT IS NOW IFR CERTIFIED. I ACCEPTED THE ACFT ON VERBAL ASSURANCE THAT EVERYTHING HAD BEEN DONE. I SHOULD HAVE INSISTED ON THE ACFT LOGBOOKS TO BE COMPLETED BEFORE I FLEW THE AIRPLANE, AND I WOULD HAVE KNOWN THE CERTIFICATION HAD BEEN MISSED. I WILL NOT ACCEPT RELEASE OF AN ACFT FROM ANNUAL INSPECTION WITH THE LOGBOOKS COMPLETED AGAIN.
