Narrative:

On a flight from sfo to clt it was reported to me that a parent of a 9 1/2 yr old male child had given the child a tablespoon of bromanate elixir instead of a teaspoon as was intended, this, along with the fact that earlier he had also been given a vanillin inhaler caused concern of the well being of the child. Both of the child's parents were traveling with him and indicated their concern. The father requested if a poison control center could be contacted to seek information to insure the well being of the child. While this information was being radioed to our dispatcher, a medical doctor was located on board and examined the child, also both parents were asked if they wanted to continue the flight or return to sfo or divert to the nearest appropriate airport. The parents and the doctor indicated the child was ok and it was alright to continue the flight to clt, nc. Our communications with the company dispatcher/poison control center indicate the same information that the child was ok but he would be sleepy for a while and if he did fall asleep to check his respiration from time to time to insure he was ok. This information was passed on to the attending doctor and the parents. Once again the doctor and parents agreed to continue to clt. Upon arrival clt, I had the paramedics meet the flight and examine the child. The child appeared to be ok and walked off the aircraft on his own with no assistance.

Title: OVER MEDICATION OF A PAX.

Narrative: ON A FLT FROM SFO TO CLT IT WAS RPTED TO ME THAT A PARENT OF A 9 1/2 YR OLD MALE CHILD HAD GIVEN THE CHILD A TABLESPOON OF BROMANATE ELIXIR INSTEAD OF A TEASPOON AS WAS INTENDED, THIS, ALONG WITH THE FACT THAT EARLIER HE HAD ALSO BEEN GIVEN A VANILLIN INHALER CAUSED CONCERN OF THE WELL BEING OF THE CHILD. BOTH OF THE CHILD'S PARENTS WERE TRAVELING WITH HIM AND INDICATED THEIR CONCERN. THE FATHER REQUESTED IF A POISON CTL CTR COULD BE CONTACTED TO SEEK INFO TO INSURE THE WELL BEING OF THE CHILD. WHILE THIS INFO WAS BEING RADIOED TO OUR DISPATCHER, A MEDICAL DOCTOR WAS LOCATED ON BOARD AND EXAMINED THE CHILD, ALSO BOTH PARENTS WERE ASKED IF THEY WANTED TO CONTINUE THE FLT OR RETURN TO SFO OR DIVERT TO THE NEAREST APPROPRIATE ARPT. THE PARENTS AND THE DOCTOR INDICATED THE CHILD WAS OK AND IT WAS ALRIGHT TO CONTINUE THE FLT TO CLT, NC. OUR COMS WITH THE COMPANY DISPATCHER/POISON CTL CTR INDICATE THE SAME INFO THAT THE CHILD WAS OK BUT HE WOULD BE SLEEPY FOR A WHILE AND IF HE DID FALL ASLEEP TO CHK HIS RESPIRATION FROM TIME TO TIME TO INSURE HE WAS OK. THIS INFO WAS PASSED ON TO THE ATTENDING DOCTOR AND THE PARENTS. ONCE AGAIN THE DOCTOR AND PARENTS AGREED TO CONTINUE TO CLT. UPON ARR CLT, I HAD THE PARAMEDICS MEET THE FLT AND EXAMINE THE CHILD. THE CHILD APPEARED TO BE OK AND WALKED OFF THE ACFT ON HIS OWN WITH NO ASSISTANCE.
