Narrative:
En route V16 swbound 5 northeast dpk at 6000 ft VFR above undercast on IFR flight plan. V16 dpk V16 jfk V16 cyn...vectored south of airway by approach. Passing dpk, told to intercept V16 south of jfk. Advised by approach, after about 10 mins, to verify route. I appeared to be intercepting V44. Realized I had not selected jfk VOR frequency. Was still tuned to dpk. Controller issued heading of 270 degrees to intercept V16 abeam col VOR. I had set up jfk frequency on the VOR receiver (FLIP-flop frequency selection) but the vector off course interrupted my train of thought. Complicating factor is that both V16 and V44 have the same outbound heading from their respective vors. Single pilot IFR. I was so concerned about maintaining position awareness with respect to the off airway vector that I failed to double-check my VOR frequency. Off airway vector occurred just prior to normal frequency change over at the halfway point.

Narrative: ENRTE V16 SWBOUND 5 NE DPK AT 6000 FT VFR ABOVE UNDERCAST ON IFR FLT PLAN. V16 DPK V16 JFK V16 CYN...VECTORED S OF AIRWAY BY APCH. PASSING DPK, TOLD TO INTERCEPT V16 S OF JFK. ADVISED BY APCH, AFTER ABOUT 10 MINS, TO VERIFY RTE. I APPEARED TO BE INTERCEPTING V44. REALIZED I HAD NOT SELECTED JFK VOR FREQ. WAS STILL TUNED TO DPK. CTLR ISSUED HDG OF 270 DEGS TO INTERCEPT V16 ABEAM COL VOR. I HAD SET UP JFK FREQ ON THE VOR RECEIVER (FLIP-FLOP FREQ SELECTION) BUT THE VECTOR OFF COURSE INTERRUPTED MY TRAIN OF THOUGHT. COMPLICATING FACTOR IS THAT BOTH V16 AND V44 HAVE THE SAME OUTBOUND HDG FROM THEIR RESPECTIVE VORS. SINGLE PLT IFR. I WAS SO CONCERNED ABOUT MAINTAINING POS AWARENESS WITH RESPECT TO THE OFF AIRWAY VECTOR THAT I FAILED TO DOUBLE-CHK MY VOR FREQ.
