Narrative:

At gon on the ramp -- night. After startup and taxi clearance to runway 23. Started taxi lost my position and accidentally taxied across runway 23. Tower came on and said...you just crossed runway 23 do I want runway 33 -- continued straight ahead. I replied ok 33 is good, and continued to and stopped at hold line for 33. Tower came on and said continued straight ahead. I taxied to 33 centerline. Now tower came on and said 'you crossed runway 23 without my permission, now you taxied in place. Again, you did not get my permission. I said I'm sorry. I was disoriented back there and thanked him for his help to runway 33. He cleared me for takeoff. I am an ATP professional. I have never had trouble taxiing at this airport at night. The problem started when I looked for a lighted taxiway to lead me to runway 23 (very dark night sky). The only blue taxi lights I found took me out and on runway 23. I quickly crossed over when tower called and had me continue to runway 33. When I held at hold tower had me continue taxi straight ahead, and I asked do you want me in position on runway 33? So, to sum it up, I will stop and ask for help when I do not know or have a question during taxi. I will not continue to taxi without a clearance. I am a very concerned pilot and I will not repeat this scenario again. At the time of this incident, one tower personnel working traffic and ground. No aircraft taxiing -- landing or departing -- other than my own. The airport was known to me night and day. No prior problem to find my way around. I have learned what not to do from this.
