Narrative:

I called ixd ground control on 124.3 and received clearance to taxi to runway 17, which I did. I stopped and held short of the hold short line, and conducted a run-up and preflight checklist. I then switched to tower on 133.0 and said I was ready for takeoff on runway 17 and would be departing sbound. The tower controller said to 'taxi to runway 17.' this was an unexpected message, as I was already at the hold short position for runway 17. I asked him if I was cleared for takeoff on runway 17, and he said 'I was cleared for takeoff runway 17.' at this point, but not before, I taxied into position on runway 17 and prepared to advance the throttle. Just as I was about to start the takeoff roll, a different controller transmitted on 133.0 and said 'aircraft X, new century ground.' I called back, and this controller claimed that I should be holding short of the runway. I informed him that I was on the runway because I was cleared for takeoff on runway 17. He told me to taxi clear of the runway, so I returned to my former position short of the hold short line. I then called the tower again on 133.0 and said I was ready for takeoff on runway 17. The tower cleared me for takeoff, and said to call the tower upon landing. I taxied back across the hold short line and departed. After calling the tower, explanation given is that another aircraft called to taxi at the exact same time I called that I was ready for takeoff. The callback to taxi, heard on tower frequency, was for the other aircraft. Item in dispute is whether I crossed the hold short line before being cleared for takeoff, or not.

Title: PA32 PLT WAS ACCUSED OF A RWY INCURSION WHEN HE TAXIED INTO POS AND HOLD AT IXD. ATCT LCL CTLR #1 CLRED THE PLT INTO POS. ATCT LCL CTLR #2 WANTED TO KNOW WHY THE PLT TAXIED ONTO THE RWY.

Narrative: I CALLED IXD GND CTL ON 124.3 AND RECEIVED CLRNC TO TAXI TO RWY 17, WHICH I DID. I STOPPED AND HELD SHORT OF THE HOLD SHORT LINE, AND CONDUCTED A RUN-UP AND PREFLT CHKLIST. I THEN SWITCHED TO TWR ON 133.0 AND SAID I WAS READY FOR TKOF ON RWY 17 AND WOULD BE DEPARTING SBOUND. THE TWR CTLR SAID TO 'TAXI TO RWY 17.' THIS WAS AN UNEXPECTED MESSAGE, AS I WAS ALREADY AT THE HOLD SHORT POS FOR RWY 17. I ASKED HIM IF I WAS CLRED FOR TKOF ON RWY 17, AND HE SAID 'I WAS CLRED FOR TKOF RWY 17.' AT THIS POINT, BUT NOT BEFORE, I TAXIED INTO POS ON RWY 17 AND PREPARED TO ADVANCE THE THROTTLE. JUST AS I WAS ABOUT TO START THE TKOF ROLL, A DIFFERENT CTLR XMITTED ON 133.0 AND SAID 'ACFT X, NEW CENTURY GND.' I CALLED BACK, AND THIS CTLR CLAIMED THAT I SHOULD BE HOLDING SHORT OF THE RWY. I INFORMED HIM THAT I WAS ON THE RWY BECAUSE I WAS CLRED FOR TKOF ON RWY 17. HE TOLD ME TO TAXI CLR OF THE RWY, SO I RETURNED TO MY FORMER POS SHORT OF THE HOLD SHORT LINE. I THEN CALLED THE TWR AGAIN ON 133.0 AND SAID I WAS READY FOR TKOF ON RWY 17. THE TWR CLRED ME FOR TKOF, AND SAID TO CALL THE TWR UPON LNDG. I TAXIED BACK ACROSS THE HOLD SHORT LINE AND DEPARTED. AFTER CALLING THE TWR, EXPLANATION GIVEN IS THAT ANOTHER ACFT CALLED TO TAXI AT THE EXACT SAME TIME I CALLED THAT I WAS READY FOR TKOF. THE CALLBACK TO TAXI, HEARD ON TWR FREQ, WAS FOR THE OTHER ACFT. ITEM IN DISPUTE IS WHETHER I CROSSED THE HOLD SHORT LINE BEFORE BEING CLRED FOR TKOF, OR NOT.
