Narrative:

On my third landing approach, while on my base leg, I observed a helicopter approaching the airport. As the helicopter got closer, I turned on my final approach to runway 11. I radioed my whereabouts, as did the helicopter. However, I was distracted by the closeness of the helicopter and did not check to verify my landing gear was down. As a result, I landed the plane with the landing gear in the 'up' position. I was alone in the plane and did not suffer any injury. The plane's propeller and engine were damaged. My distraction caused by the helicopter's close landing proximity to runway 11 was the cause of me not rechking to see if my landing gear was down before I landed. To correct this from ever happening again, I will take more training in the plane to make sure I mentally go through the landing checklist both on downwind, base let, and final approach, etc. Probably a contributing factor to my error is the low time I have in the cessna 182RG -- 23 hours. All of my prior time has been in fixed-gear planes.

Title: GEAR UP LNDG.

Narrative: ON MY THIRD LNDG APCH, WHILE ON MY BASE LEG, I OBSERVED A HELI APCHING THE ARPT. AS THE HELI GOT CLOSER, I TURNED ON MY FINAL APCH TO RWY 11. I RADIOED MY WHEREABOUTS, AS DID THE HELI. HOWEVER, I WAS DISTRACTED BY THE CLOSENESS OF THE HELI AND DID NOT CHK TO VERIFY MY LNDG GEAR WAS DOWN. AS A RESULT, I LANDED THE PLANE WITH THE LNDG GEAR IN THE 'UP' POS. I WAS ALONE IN THE PLANE AND DID NOT SUFFER ANY INJURY. THE PLANE'S PROP AND ENG WERE DAMAGED. MY DISTR CAUSED BY THE HELI'S CLOSE LNDG PROX TO RWY 11 WAS THE CAUSE OF ME NOT RECHKING TO SEE IF MY LNDG GEAR WAS DOWN BEFORE I LANDED. TO CORRECT THIS FROM EVER HAPPENING AGAIN, I WILL TAKE MORE TRAINING IN THE PLANE TO MAKE SURE I MENTALLY GO THROUGH THE LNDG CHKLIST BOTH ON DOWNWIND, BASE LET, AND FINAL APCH, ETC. PROBABLY A CONTRIBUTING FACTOR TO MY ERROR IS THE LOW TIME I HAVE IN THE CESSNA 182RG -- 23 HRS. ALL OF MY PRIOR TIME HAS BEEN IN FIXED-GEAR PLANES.
