Narrative:

I was approaching for the north end, canceled my IFR clearance 25 mi out. I was told to continue for runway 21L and report a 2 mi final. At 2 mi, ATC was talking with numerous aircraft. I continued and was given clearance to land at about 1 mi. The metroliner appeared from my left and crossed my path on a modified base to final. I initiated a go around when I went through his wake turbulence/disturbed air. I made left traffic back to the same runway and landed without incident. I don't know whether the controller was upset with me because he never said anything. I was angry that the traffic was not made clear to me and the fact that I never reported seeing it. I had assumed (my fault) that the metroliner was on a right base for runway 21R, and not a left base, as was probably the case. However, I am still unsure that they were cleared for a left base and not a right base, while just overshooting final for runway 21R and returning to land on the runway. Originally I heard them ask for runway 12. I assumed they were cleared for a right base and was looking that way. I believe the problem was caused by the controller trying to accommodate too many requests from too many aircraft at the same time. The metroliner was changed to runway 21R at the last min. Also, I believe the controller should have made the traffic clear to me and required a verification. In the future, I will do my best to listen better and be more forceful with the controller about issuing traffic.

Narrative: I WAS APCHING FOR THE N END, CANCELED MY IFR CLRNC 25 MI OUT. I WAS TOLD TO CONTINUE FOR RWY 21L AND RPT A 2 MI FINAL. AT 2 MI, ATC WAS TALKING WITH NUMEROUS ACFT. I CONTINUED AND WAS GIVEN CLRNC TO LAND AT ABOUT 1 MI. THE METROLINER APPEARED FROM MY L AND CROSSED MY PATH ON A MODIFIED BASE TO FINAL. I INITIATED A GAR WHEN I WENT THROUGH HIS WAKE TURB/DISTURBED AIR. I MADE L TFC BACK TO THE SAME RWY AND LANDED WITHOUT INCIDENT. I DON'T KNOW WHETHER THE CTLR WAS UPSET WITH ME BECAUSE HE NEVER SAID ANYTHING. I WAS ANGRY THAT THE TFC WAS NOT MADE CLR TO ME AND THE FACT THAT I NEVER RPTED SEEING IT. I HAD ASSUMED (MY FAULT) THAT THE METROLINER WAS ON A R BASE FOR RWY 21R, AND NOT A L BASE, AS WAS PROBABLY THE CASE. HOWEVER, I AM STILL UNSURE THAT THEY WERE CLRED FOR A L BASE AND NOT A R BASE, WHILE JUST OVERSHOOTING FINAL FOR RWY 21R AND RETURNING TO LAND ON THE RWY. ORIGINALLY I HEARD THEM ASK FOR RWY 12. I ASSUMED THEY WERE CLRED FOR A R BASE AND WAS LOOKING THAT WAY. I BELIEVE THE PROB WAS CAUSED BY THE CTLR TRYING TO ACCOMMODATE TOO MANY REQUESTS FROM TOO MANY ACFT AT THE SAME TIME. THE METROLINER WAS CHANGED TO RWY 21R AT THE LAST MIN. ALSO, I BELIEVE THE CTLR SHOULD HAVE MADE THE TFC CLR TO ME AND REQUIRED A VERIFICATION. IN THE FUTURE, I WILL DO MY BEST TO LISTEN BETTER AND BE MORE FORCEFUL WITH THE CTLR ABOUT ISSUING TFC.
