Narrative:

Aircraft being cleared for localizer approach runway 35 at owd. During flare at the runway, student pilot hit snowbank at left side. Instructor reacted by idling mixture, and aborted go around. Aircraft received damage. No injuries. Runway is only partially plowed. The corrective action should be of course to fully plow the runway! Student pilot in left seat saw snowbank as a 1000 ft distance marker. Instructor (me) saw out of right window the centerline. Thought everything was ok, but not. Complications: dark night, wet runway, still, big snowbanks. The corrective action should be of course to fully plow the runway! Supplemental information from acn 265975: runway had not been plowed inside of runway lights and snow was piled up on both sides of runway. The snow was not visible on the runway between the bright runway lights. The gear sheared off in the snow and the plane came to rest on the runway.
