Narrative:

After the company canceled our last round trip, they then re-assigned a trip to us. We told them we didn't want to fly the trip because it would have gotten us finished 4 hours later than normal on our 4 day trip. They then forced us to do the trip. After I returned and investigated, it turns out, on reduced rest of 8 hours only, we exceeded 9 hours of flight time in a 24 hour period. We didn't think to check for that sophisticated legality problem when crew schedulers are telling you that it is legal.
