Narrative:

I was assigned to a trip that was blocked for 6.9 hours for that day. Due to early morning fog in the northeast region, I experienced extensive delays in the ny area. My trip ended in phl and I was supposed to deadhead to my base mdt. Operations van pulled next to my plane and told me I had to fly a flight to bwi and I had to contact dispatch. The bwi flight was delayed for over an hour and a half due to not having a captain to fly that flight (due to flight time for the 7 day period on his part). I called dispatch and they asked me if I could fly the airplane to bwi so the other captain could finish his trip. I hadn't totaled my time for the day but knew I was close to the 8 hour limit. However, I was under the impression that this was a ferry flight. I notified operations that I would be taking the aircraft to bwi and walked to the aircraft which was parked on the ramp. I got to the aircraft and after preflting noticed that some passenger had been bussed from the terminal to the aircraft to be taken to bwi. I notified the agent that I wasn't supposed to take passenger to bwi and this was a ferry flight, and he told me that they had talked to our operations and were told that it was ok. I took the flight to bwi and the other captain took over the trip. I had 3 hours before my deadhead flight home. I totaled my flight time for the day and I had ended up with 8.8 hours flight time. I looked back, and I had 7.8 hours in phl and was not able to take a revenue flight. The above event had taken place within 15 to 20 mins upon my arrival at phl after a 12 hour duty day. I believe there was a miscom between operations, dispatch, and myself, and everyone assuming that this was a ferry flight everyone was talking about and somehow turned into a revenue flight. Our company is going through a major expansion and pilot hiring. Our pilots time out quick and there is a lot of last min changes to the trips people fly. I've notified the company and they are looking into their system of keeping track of pilots times even during their trips and I will have to do the same.

Title: CAPT OF ACR LTT ACFT EXCEEDED FLT TIME DUTY LIMITATIONS.

Narrative: I WAS ASSIGNED TO A TRIP THAT WAS BLOCKED FOR 6.9 HRS FOR THAT DAY. DUE TO EARLY MORNING FOG IN THE NE REGION, I EXPERIENCED EXTENSIVE DELAYS IN THE NY AREA. MY TRIP ENDED IN PHL AND I WAS SUPPOSED TO DEADHEAD TO MY BASE MDT. OPS VAN PULLED NEXT TO MY PLANE AND TOLD ME I HAD TO FLY A FLT TO BWI AND I HAD TO CONTACT DISPATCH. THE BWI FLT WAS DELAYED FOR OVER AN HR AND A HALF DUE TO NOT HAVING A CAPT TO FLY THAT FLT (DUE TO FLT TIME FOR THE 7 DAY PERIOD ON HIS PART). I CALLED DISPATCH AND THEY ASKED ME IF I COULD FLY THE AIRPLANE TO BWI SO THE OTHER CAPT COULD FINISH HIS TRIP. I HADN'T TOTALED MY TIME FOR THE DAY BUT KNEW I WAS CLOSE TO THE 8 HR LIMIT. HOWEVER, I WAS UNDER THE IMPRESSION THAT THIS WAS A FERRY FLT. I NOTIFIED OPS THAT I WOULD BE TAKING THE ACFT TO BWI AND WALKED TO THE ACFT WHICH WAS PARKED ON THE RAMP. I GOT TO THE ACFT AND AFTER PREFLTING NOTICED THAT SOME PAX HAD BEEN BUSSED FROM THE TERMINAL TO THE ACFT TO BE TAKEN TO BWI. I NOTIFIED THE AGENT THAT I WASN'T SUPPOSED TO TAKE PAX TO BWI AND THIS WAS A FERRY FLT, AND HE TOLD ME THAT THEY HAD TALKED TO OUR OPS AND WERE TOLD THAT IT WAS OK. I TOOK THE FLT TO BWI AND THE OTHER CAPT TOOK OVER THE TRIP. I HAD 3 HRS BEFORE MY DEADHEAD FLT HOME. I TOTALED MY FLT TIME FOR THE DAY AND I HAD ENDED UP WITH 8.8 HRS FLT TIME. I LOOKED BACK, AND I HAD 7.8 HRS IN PHL AND WAS NOT ABLE TO TAKE A REVENUE FLT. THE ABOVE EVENT HAD TAKEN PLACE WITHIN 15 TO 20 MINS UPON MY ARR AT PHL AFTER A 12 HR DUTY DAY. I BELIEVE THERE WAS A MISCOM BTWN OPS, DISPATCH, AND MYSELF, AND EVERYONE ASSUMING THAT THIS WAS A FERRY FLT EVERYONE WAS TALKING ABOUT AND SOMEHOW TURNED INTO A REVENUE FLT. OUR COMPANY IS GOING THROUGH A MAJOR EXPANSION AND PLT HIRING. OUR PLTS TIME OUT QUICK AND THERE IS A LOT OF LAST MIN CHANGES TO THE TRIPS PEOPLE FLY. I'VE NOTIFIED THE COMPANY AND THEY ARE LOOKING INTO THEIR SYS OF KEEPING TRACK OF PLTS TIMES EVEN DURING THEIR TRIPS AND I WILL HAVE TO DO THE SAME.
