Narrative:

At about 1/2 way in my taxiing turn out from the gate, I received an emergency stop command from the taxi director. I executed an emergency stop instantly and the aircraft came to an abrupt halt. The traction was good. I was advised the left horizontal stabilizer tip had grazed the jetway. I returned to the gate to investigate for damage. All checklist, procedures and events were correct and normal prior to the emergency stop. Damage was very light and non structural. The aircraft was released for revenue flight. This situation could have been avoided if the taxi director had ensured that the aircraft would clear all obstacles as it turned out of the gate area. The left wing cleared the jetway, but the left horizontal stabilizer did not.
