Narrative:

4 days after I completed my regular 6 months check (simulator loft training sep/xx/93), I was on the 2ND day of a 4-DAY trip. A company training instructor called me at my overnight location and informed me that I was past my grace month for a line check. I was taken off and replaced from that 4-DAY trip and was told not to fly until further notice. Company management notified the FAA of this missed line check, and is currently awaiting word from them as to what is required to get me recertified. According to our company flight operations manual, a line pilot, like myself, is not responsible for scheduling or notifying the company training department that a line check is due. They are scheduled by the company, but not at any certain time as with ground school, recurrent ground school, or recurrent simulator checks, etc. However, if I knew I was past due, or approaching my time for a line check, I certainly would have notified the training department. It's just that they are scheduled with such irregularity you never know when they are going to occur, and it's at company training convenience to schedule and complete them.

Title: CAPT OF AN MLG ACR ACFT INADVERTENTLY OPERATED ACFT WITH EXPIRED LINE CHK.

Narrative: 4 DAYS AFTER I COMPLETED MY REGULAR 6 MONTHS CHK (SIMULATOR LOFT TRAINING SEP/XX/93), I WAS ON THE 2ND DAY OF A 4-DAY TRIP. A COMPANY TRAINING INSTRUCTOR CALLED ME AT MY OVERNIGHT LOCATION AND INFORMED ME THAT I WAS PAST MY GRACE MONTH FOR A LINE CHK. I WAS TAKEN OFF AND REPLACED FROM THAT 4-DAY TRIP AND WAS TOLD NOT TO FLY UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. COMPANY MGMNT NOTIFIED THE FAA OF THIS MISSED LINE CHK, AND IS CURRENTLY AWAITING WORD FROM THEM AS TO WHAT IS REQUIRED TO GET ME RECERTIFIED. ACCORDING TO OUR COMPANY FLT OPS MANUAL, A LINE PLT, LIKE MYSELF, IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR SCHEDULING OR NOTIFYING THE COMPANY TRAINING DEPT THAT A LINE CHK IS DUE. THEY ARE SCHEDULED BY THE COMPANY, BUT NOT AT ANY CERTAIN TIME AS WITH GND SCHOOL, RECURRENT GND SCHOOL, OR RECURRENT SIMULATOR CHKS, ETC. HOWEVER, IF I KNEW I WAS PAST DUE, OR APCHING MY TIME FOR A LINE CHK, I CERTAINLY WOULD HAVE NOTIFIED THE TRAINING DEPT. IT'S JUST THAT THEY ARE SCHEDULED WITH SUCH IRREGULARITY YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN THEY ARE GOING TO OCCUR, AND IT'S AT COMPANY TRAINING CONVENIENCE TO SCHEDULE AND COMPLETE THEM.
