Narrative:

I was flying to pit on approach to runway 32, I had a visual on traffic ahead as it made it's base leg turn to final and thought to myself if things aren't backed up too much we should be cleared for a visual. About 20 mins prior I had made an announcement to the passengers that we were still at a reduced airspeed and being given delaying vectors because of traffic to pit. While I made this announcement I turned off my overhead speaker. Just after the PA we were given some type of another restriction, we were switched over to approach and did our checklist. We delayed our '10 min out' message to the flight attendants because I thought we would have a lot of approach time. After we were cleared from 6000 ft to 4000 ft I asked the first officer to seat the flight attendants. He was making the announcement and at the same time turned off his speaker because the ATC was issuing traffic. I didn't notice he did this because at that time my attention was on slowing down, going down and looking around to other traffic. When the TCASII issued the RA he (the first officer) realized the problem and turned on the speaker again. The RA was issued at about 4300; was discontinued at 4200 ft. Traffic was a commuter inbound on the 32 localizer at 5000 who was to follow us; but because we missed 6 ATC calls he was cleared ahead. I split the cockpit when things got busy to I'm flying, your talking I should, I know better than to split the cockpit to my side your side.
