Narrative:

I was in cruise VFR at 10500 and had just been handed off from ny departure (126.85?) and made contact with ZNY (135.75) when an medium large transport was suddenly noted at my 2 O'clock position heading at me and apparently descending. It passed just behind me and overhead. I immediately told the controller an medium large transport just passed overhead and he sort of grunted back 'yeah.' no further word from him. The medium large transport was a scheduled airline plane I thought. We were both under positive control. Maybe talking to different controllers since I was leaving ny TCA and he was going in. Seems like alarm bells would have sounded somewhere. Maybe everything was cool, but the separation was too close for comfort and it was an unnerving experience -- perhaps more so for the pilots, passenger of the other plane and also the controller. Perhaps the proximity to bwz was a factor as well as being between or at the edge of ATC sectors.

MAYBE EVERYTHING WAS COOL, BUT THE SEPARATION WAS TOO CLOSE FOR COMFORT AND IT WAS AN UNNERVING EXPERIENCE -- PERHAPS MORE SO FOR THE PLTS, PAX OF THE OTHER PLANE AND ALSO THE CTLR. PERHAPS THE PROX TO BWZ WAS A FACTOR AS WELL AS BEING BTWN OR AT THE EDGE OF ATC SECTORS.
