Cleared to fly loupe 8 departure from sjc. Interpreted published instructions to 'turn to 120 degrees within 4 DME sjc VOR/DME' to start 'turn no later than 4 DME.' at approximately 5 DME while still in turn was notified by departure of the restr. No conflict occurred. Suggest rewording the 'loupe 8' to read 'complete turn within 4 DME' and provide a DME arc on the chart on the plan view of departure procedure as in the attached procedures.
